DEF LEPPARD Bassist Comments On Upcoming Tour
June 2, 2006With their new album "Yeah!" still hot off the presses, DEF LEPPARD is ready to celebrate with a summer-long tour.
The band will kick off its 54-date tour in fitting fashion Saturday night (June 3),when it shares the stage with some of metal's giants at the Gods of Metal festival in Milan, Italy.
The four-day festival features DEF LEPPARD as one of the headliners on a bill that includes heavy hitters like GUNS N' ROSES, KORN, DEFTONES, ALICE IN CHAINS, WHITESNAKE, MOTÖRHEAD and TESTAMENT.
"There will be plenty of surprises, but I ain't lettin' them all loose now," DEF LEPPARD bassist Rick Savage said about the tour. "Otherwise they wouldn't be surprises."
After that, the band will head on to its much-anticipated North American co-headlining tour with JOURNEY, which will begin Friday, June 23, in Camden, N.J. The tour's last announced date is Saturday, Sept. 23, in Mansfield, Mass, but more concerts may be added in the future.
"We went out last summer and last fall with BRYAN ADAMS, and we were always wary about going out with other major artists and what kind of effect it would have and what perception people would have with it," Savage said.
"But it was such a success that when JOURNEY was suggested to us, we just kind of thought, 'This is cool.' They've had that longevity and have been there and had the hits. They're a great live band, they've obviously still got a very big following, and we just thought that the two of us together could equal something bigger than the sum of the parts. Ticket sales are reflecting that. They've been amazing.
"At the end of the day, it's two good bands that can play live, they're real, they do it for the right reasons, and it's genuine, and we honestly believe that fans pick up on that."
